About 30 brokers and staff from the Lake Forest office visited Bernie’s Book Bank yesterday for the first of two visits to help sort, tag, sticker and package books for children who might not otherwise have access to them. The organization reports that 61% of low-income families do not have any books in their home for their children, so Bernie’s helps fill that void by distributing 35,000 books each week throughout the Chicagoland area. At the end of their volunteer shift, the brokers were privileged to see a video of "Delivery Day" when children receive their books. Thank you letters from the children were also read with one little boy commenting, “with my books I know I can be anything I want to be”. Another group of Lake Forest office realtors will meet at Bernie’s tomorrow and the book drive at the office will continue until Saturday! The office has found the experience so meaningful that they plan to regularly volunteer at Bernie’s.
